World War II memorial, HrabynÄ› – Ostrava, Moravia

Winning entry in the architectural competition.

Three pieces of mass contain the museum. Two of these are shaped strictly geometrically. The third sculpturally suggesting a theme of destruction adjoins a symbolic cemetery. The tallest mass contains the above-ground entrance, the top surface of the longest mass serves as a terrace with a country-side view. Exit is by ramp from underground. Interior lighting is enhanced by constricted admission of natural outdoor light creating a mystical effect.
