Project detail

Architect Picek uses the silhouette of this design as a logo for his company. This project is part of the Collection of the architecture of 20th century in the National gallery in Prague.
The GRAND PRIX 2004 - National prize for the best piece of Architecture.
MAPIC award in Cannes - the best complex of entertainment industry in Europe, 2002. GRAND PRIX 2003 of the Society of Czech architects - architectural design.
Winning project in the international competition.
1st prize in an architectural competition (with Waisman, Dewar Grout).
Two villas are located on terraces of a hilly forest with a beautiful view.
Reconstruction and addition (restaurant, café, luxury apartments, interior, roof gardens).
This villa is surrounded by subtropical growth. It is set apart from the flood of middle class haciendas and Victorian villa replicas by its simplicity and purity.

Traditional construction maintains a continuity with the existing urban fabric. The house was built on a typically medieval narrow site. From the ruins of the original 18-19th century building, only the structure of one room on the 2nd floor and the adjacent part of the rear facade survived.
1st prize in the architectural competition. „The best gardens competition“ award 2004.
Development of the Pankrác plain (awarded in the competition).
Japan is said to be the land of the rising sun. The design of this hotel reflects this idea and creates a unique solution to the narrow site, 150 m from the sea.

It is not important what am I designing. What matters is the freedom to create according to the principles that I belive in.

I respect the Genius Loci

Each location is specific and inspires me with something else. That is the reason, why each of my projects has a different form.

If I had to use only three words…

Mass
Mass is the thickened energy of the structure. An architecturally shaped mass should respect the context of the city, of the landscape or of nature. In a similar way as presented in the design of the Indian Museum on Vancouver Island… The architecture has to possess compositional, functional and constructional logic, not only so called aesthetic form.
Freedom
Imagination is the way towards freedom. If the architect feels Genius Loci, understands the actual purpose of the building, and accepts his responsibility, he can create freely. And if it is so, he can even allow himself to locate „a rotating shapeable form“ in the desert, that will „freeze“ in a particular shape.
Harmony
Good Architecture is harmonious and refined, it does not disturb its surroundings. It avoids being willful. It simply respects its purpose, not the vagary of the architect.
